A fun, discovery filled tour about the traditions of the Easter holiday in Victorian America. A great experience for the whole family! Don't miss, "Meadow's in the Bloom" this March and April! This spring our special Victorian Easter tour, "Meadows in the Bloom" will showcase all of the fun and unusual Easter customs of the 19th century! See the historic mansion "My Old Kentucky Home" decorated for the Easter holiday! On display in the mansion's parlor is our Easter tree with decorated eggs! See what are considered today to be highly odd, even weird, Easter greeting cards, and see a nearly 200 year old Easter cross made of wax flowers and hand detailed greenery made by one of the original owners of My Old Kentucky Home. The mansion's dining room will be decorated for an Easter dinner, with fine china, silver, flowers, and beautiful streamers in Easter colors.

The Race is On!

It's DERBY time in the Kentucky and My Old Kentucky Home is proud to roll out the roses, silks, hats, and more with our Kentucky Derby exhibit, the "Race is On!" Our exhibit includes items from the world-famous horse, Secretariat, and racing silks from Secretariat's horse farm "The Meadows!" See My Old Kentucky Home's "Kentucky Bowl," a trophy carefully and exquisitely handcrafted in crystal by the world-famous Steuben glass works, designed by Sidney Waugh, a member of the original Monuments Men that helped to save priceless works of art during WWII. The beautiful trophy for the Stephen Foster Handicap, a Grade I stakes race and an important precursor to the Breeders’ Cup Classic, will also be displayed. The song, “My Old Kentucky Home” will be performed on each tour by our talented guides! Fantastic, bizarre, imaginative, over-the-top, and gorgeous Derby Hats and seersucker fashion will be on display in the mansion's parlor, in addition to My Old Kentucky Home's own set of Coin Silver Mint Julep cups made by William & Archibald Cooper. Learn the story of how “My Old Kentucky Home” became the official post parade song of the Kentucky Derby and My Old Kentucky Home's horse racing history that connects the 200 year old farm to virtually every Kentucky derby winner in history! This exhibit highlighting Kentucky’s most famous fun-filled celebration known as the “fastest two-minutes in sports” isn’t one to be missed!

My Old Kentucky Home State Park invites you to a special post-Derby celebration, the My Old Kentucky Barbeque. Indulge in an array of flavors with plated barbeque meals from Kentucky Home Pork Producers and traditional Kentucky burgoo. Quench your thirst at our Beer Garden and full bar, where you can enjoy classic mint juleps and Lily drinks. Amidst this culinary delight, live music will resonate throughout the park, adding to the day’s festive spirit.
For a more exclusive experience, a limited number of VIP tickets are available for $95. These VIP tickets include food, access to a private tent, and an open bar exclusively for VIP guests. In our exhibit, “A HOUSE DIVIDED,” tour guests will discover and encounter the realities of the Civil War Era in and around the historic mansion. Hear our talented tour guides sing the abolitionist inspired song “My Old Kentucky Home" on every tour. As armies marched through the Bluegrass State, many local communities rationed supplies and provided food and clothing to soldiers, all while awaiting news of the war and family. See rooms of the mansion transformed for the war-era, including an outstanding collection of weaponry, uniforms, and more!

Weep No More: Bizarre Victorian Mourning & Funerary Customs

My Old Kentucky Home will be transformed into the bizarre Victorian world of funerals and mourning all of October! Enter the mansion, draped in black swag and feather plumes, and wander the darkened halls to hear the stories of the mansion’s storied past as it relates to death and demise. “Weep No More,” an exhibit on Victorian mourning customs, is coming to My Old Kentucky Home in the heart of bourbon country! During the Victorian era, social customs related to the death of a family member encouraged practices that publicly demonstrated the grief of the remaining family members. Original artifacts including death masks, jewelry and art made of the hair of deceased friends and family, tear vials, black mourning clothing, in addition to entry doors and door knobs draped in black, mirrors turned backwards, clocks stopped at the time of death, and a wake held in the mansion's parlor all set the stage for an otherworldly experience!

Guides in Victorian hoop skirts and gentleman in tailcoats sing the song “My Old Kentucky Home,” on your tour of Kentucky’s most famous landmark decorated for Christmas, My Old Kentucky Home! The mansion is adorned and decorated with six beautiful 12′ tall Christmas trees, each with a unique Kentucky theme, including the Commonwealth Tree, Meadows in the Bloom, Birds Make Music All the Day, & more! Garlands, mistletoe & stockings full of toys! Experience the traditional, and sometimes odd, Christmas customs of the Victorian era at My Old Kentucky Home! Learn the origins of the Christmas tree, how mistletoe became famous for exchanging kisses, the tradition of the yule log, the history of the Christmas pickle, the legends of Father Christmas and Santa Claus, and the bizarre Victorian traditions including Krampus who punished bad children, and learn why Victorians sent Christmas cards featuring sword fighting frogs & frozen birds to each another during the holidays. As you move forward to each room, experience a different era of Christmas, starting from colonial times, the early and late Victorian periods, all the way to the roaring 20’s when the mansion was last owned by the Rowan family.
